In recent news, the Central Arizona Project (CAP) made a huge commitment to the solar industry by signing a twenty-year Power Purchase Agreement with solar company AZ Solar 1. This will be documented as the lowest price for solar in the United States. Connecting Arizona’s most precious resource, water, with its most abundant resource, the sun, is an important step toward a clean energy future for Arizona.

The Arizona Corporation Commission (ACC) plays an important role in our everyday lives. The commission regulates utilities (like water, electric, and gas), which means the decisions they make have a huge impact on everything from how much you pay for electricity each month, to the kinds of energy used to produce this electricity. Arizona is one of a handful of states that elects our corporation commission, which provides us the opportunity to elect candidates who are dedicated to a brighter, greener, and more resilient future for energy in our state.

How to keep your New Year’s clean energy resolution

1/16/2017

New Year’s resolutions are tough to stick to, but if your resolution is to save energy and money, we’ve got you covered in 2017. These clean energy gadgets will do all the work for you – all you have to do is enjoy your savings and congratulate yourself on a resolution well-kept.

1. Coffee Joulies
Picture
Can you save energy with your morning cup of Joe? This nifty innovation can help reduce your energy consumption in your caffeine routine. Coffee Joulies reheat your morning cup of coffee, so you don’t have to pop your mug in the microwave or throw it out to make a new, warmer batch. Some added benefits make this energy-saving trick even better: they won’t make your coffee too hot, and they can also be used to cool down a tongue-stinging cup of coffee. We’re very excited to try these out and save some energy in the process; you can check them out here.
2. Solar Water Heater
Solar power isn’t only used to generate electricity – it can also be used to heat your water and your home! Solar water heaters use the power of the sun to heat up a reservoir of water, which is then pumped through your radiator or faucet. This can be much cheaper than installing a rooftop solar system, and is a great way to get started with clean energy. You can learn more about solar water heaters here.

3. Solar Air Conditioning
This clean energy solution is perfect for Arizona: take the energy from the hot sun and cool your house down – what’s not to love? The solar air conditioner works in the same way as the solar water heater, but is much more practical in the Arizona heat. Since they function on the same principal, you can even combine your solar water heater and solar air conditioning systems for a 2 for 1 energy-saving whammy. Check out the video here.
4. The Powerwall 2

Tesla’s Powerwall 2 is not the only large rechargeable battery for home use on the market, but it is certainly leading the way in energy storage. This battery allows you to store energy from the grid, and it’s programmable, so you can charge it during the cheaper “off-peak” hours. That means you can use your “off-peak” energy during the more expensive “on-peak” hours, which reduces your electricity bill and lets you hold on to more of your hard-earned cash. Take a look at the Powerwall 2
here.
5. Rooftop Solar Panels
Let the sun to all the hard work for you this year. Installing a rooftop solar energy system on your home or business is one of the most efficient and long-lasting ways to make your New Year’s resolution a lifelong commitment. Take advantage of the most abundant (and free) source of energy around, and save money every month on your electricity bill while you’re at it. Make this year your brightest one yet and go solar! Don’t wait to begin your installation process. Solar customer who begin their installation before July 1, 2017 will be grandfathered in under current net metering rules and rates. Contact us today for a free quote and to set up an appointment.
