It’s Women’s History Month, and we’re celebrating all of the women who are a powerful force in shaping the future of renewable energy. It’s agreed that women bring many talents, values, and contributions to the solar industry. More and more women are entering this field to help ensure a sustainable future for their families and for generations to come, but there is still room for growth!
According to Boss Magazine, 94% of those in the energy field believe gender diversity is essential to navigating the disruption to the oil and gas industry, yet only 11% of senior executives in energy are women. The 2018 Top Solar Contractors list reported that out of the 450 solar contracting companies, 24 women are CEOs, even though women make up 27% of the solar workforce.
Solar labor has increased over 168% in the last eight years. Women are being encouraged to enter this well-paying profession, even though women still make 78 cents for every dollar a man earns. Women’s empowerment is a key indicator for economic growth and future stable prosperity in growing nations. HeatSpring Magazine reports that gender-diverse companies financially benefit and outperform the national median by an average of 15%. This is why many solar companies offer training through internship and fellowship programs to get women started in the field.
Professions range from pipefitters, welders, electricians, construction, production managers, and installers to sales representatives, marketing and HR managers. Salary ranges are from $40,000 to over $100,000. It is noted that women tend to gravitate to the non-roof top positions and opt more towards sales, marketing and human resource functions within the industry.
The “Future is Female,” which is why women are stepping up to save the planet and fighting for a better, more sustainable future for each and every one of us. Happy Women’s History Month from everyone at SunHarvest Solar!
